91.5 Big Radio Replaces Energy FM

91.5 Big Radio

Today, June 1, 2011 91.5 Big Radio launches and replaced the former brand Energy FM. The latter station signed off a few minutes past midnight paving the way for the launching of the new brand.

Manny Luzon spearheads the new format. He is currently the president of OneRadio Management, who is also involved in managing and programming 107.5 Win Radio, along with Daniel Razon.

The format Big Radio sounds very much like Energy FM, which is rumored to transfer to the 106.7 frequency.

Big Radio is owned by Ultrasonic Broadcasting System which also operates all Energy FM stations in the country.

“Our new Baby is born today June 1, 2011 at 1:15am. The name is 91.5 BIG Radio!”, Manny Luzon.

Manny Luzon is the first to go on air as DJ when the new station first signed on today. Big Radio is going to be the 12th pang-masa (Tagalog-speaking) or class C-D-E radio station in Metro Manila.

  9. RADIO IS FOR MASS PEOPLE , ILANG porshento ba ang illiterate ngaun, basically un ang target market nila those who have lower educ. attainment, blue collars, kung kayo man ay feeling na nasa CLASS A(na basically 2 percent lang, ) hindi ito intended sa inyo UNINTENDED AUDIENCE LANG KAYO if you’re looking for so cool-so hot-socialite type of life the go to the mall and buy your 3D TV OR iPAD. buy hermes ang stuff hindi naman kayo kasing talino ng mga producer nyan,,,, actually they dont care about you.

    1. Radio is not always for mass people. 50% targets the mass-based market (C-D-E). 35% targets the niche market (A-B), notably CHR stations (Magic, RX, RT). 10% targets the mid-class market (B-C-D), notably oldies stations (RJ). 5% targets the class A market, notably Crossover & Radio High.

    2. Kailangan pa ring i-fulfill ang demands ng ibang mga tao na may radyo o gustong makinig ng radyo. Tama si coolmac. May mga kanya-kanya pa ring target audience ang mga himpilan. To say that broadcasters do not care about those in the A-B class is just like saying that Crossover, RadioHigh, and CHR and English stations do not exist.

More formats mean more freedom for the listener to listen to what he wants, no matter what the target audience of the stations are.

  10. We only have a few A-B, English-speaking stations. We have RT, Jam, Magic, among others. Inasmuch as I want to listen to these stations, only Magic and, at times, RT, fulfill my demands as a student-listener. All the rest are masa stations.

I would like to disagree, however, about the inclusion of 92.3 NewsFM as a masa station. A news/talk radio must not be classified as masa station because information is for everyone, whether you are a rich businessman or a simple man on the street. News/talk radio remain as news/talk radio, not a subset of the masa format for me.

  11. We, who claim to be radio people, are just not getting it. How unfortunate. Whatever happened to liberate and educate the masses taste (True Faith – Shotgun Baby Bang Bang)?

It appears we should be the ones to get educated asap.

  12. it’s really kind of funny. Before, every radio station claims to be #1, then every stations claims to be funny, then ngaun almost every radio station claims to be pang-masa. wtf!
