Listen to any CHR radio jingle cut from any jingle company, and you
’ll hear lots of that “Cher” effect. Lots of reverb, echoing, EQing and digitizing that’s been done. We didn’t even know robots are allowed to sing for CHR radio jingles.

Vote for the best imaged FM Station

Voting for the best imaged radio station has to be categorized according to format since each format has its distinct way of imaging and presenting its personality. BTW, imaging refers to the station IDs used by radio stations for example DWRR has station ID jingles that go “Alam Mo Na Yan” 101.9 For Life – that’s imaging.

For AC stations, iFM 93.9 from Radio Mindanao Network is the best imaged radio station in the country to date. Their new catchphrase theme is the iFM “Pwede” station IDs. This was a good follow up to their first imaging campaign aptly themed “iFM – and FM ko ay …..”. The new Ifm Pwede station IDs feature jingles that encompass all the diverse styles of music, from pop, rock, acoustic, to reggae and even RNB. They even had Kyla singing for their new iFM jingles. Although iFM commissioned an American based jingle imaging producer TM Century , now called Jones TM, for their iFM jingles, the folks at DWKC still managed to craft original and Pinoy-flavored IDs that are true in Filipino spirit.

For CHR, RX 93.1 is the best imaged station.

The worst imaged station so far is not from a Manila station but from a Cebu station. ABS-CBN’s M.O.R. My Only Radio LS 97.1 Lupig Sila station is the worst dressed radio station in the Philippines to date. Maybe Peter Rabbit needs to review on their regional FM station. Although their MOR jingle is popularly enough to obtain much needed mind recall, it’s the overall presentation, appeal or stationality of MOR Cebu that is really sick.

Philippine radio industry remains to be a Country-free industry

The Philippines radio industry remains to be a Country-free industry. Although CHR and AC stations are currently including new country artists in their playlist, not a single station has ever cashed in on a new country FM station. Probably it’s the salability of the format, ABC tried to do Hispanic format with Rio 106 in early 2000, but if format flopped rather than format flipped. The Philippines though have good country singers – Freddie Aguiler is a pillar in the Philippine country music scene.

You’ll be proud of Pinoy Stations… even if you hate 101.9 For Life or LS 97.1

Guide To Create Your Own Show Opener Radio ID

Most radio stations would really love to have their radio shows or programs stand out. Each of the station’s program is unique – in its manner of presentation, the content and of course the audience.

A great way to kick off a radio program is by using show openers. These are station IDs used to launch a radio program and to transition programming from one radio show to another. Here’s a quick guide on how to make a killer show opener.

Cool Idea

It begins with pen and paper and not the mic and Audition. Writing a good script means a lot, your show opener should describe amply about that radio program.

Keep It Short

Don’t make it too long, radio show opener IDs must be less than 30 seconds. You don’t want to keep your listeners waiting.

Back It Up

Choose a background music or bed that will be used as a theme on which the show opener ID will revolve. For example, if the radio show is about 80s music, make sure the bed and the production elements are those that depict the music and the feel of that era.

Use SFX and other Production Elements

Don’t just throw in some simple lines over a bed, make it hip by adding some production elements like artist drops, sound bites or other audio clip arts. SFX effects are great but it depends on the nature of the radio show. It should be used moderately as too much SFX will overkill your show opener ID.

Proper Production Technique

What you hear in the studio might not exactly what you hear on actual broadcast. Broadcast transmission can sometimes alter the finished product of your show opener ID. Sometimes, the sound effects could get blurred or get subtle. Make sure you adjust some Parametric EQ in Cool Edit or Adobe Audition. Use compression for the voiceover material and some hard limiting for finishing.

The most important aspect in creating show openers is definitely the originality and originality of the material. It must be catchy enough to keep your listeners stuck to their radio sets.
