Killerbee Butuan Is Dead – Another CHR Station Closes Shop

Killerbee Butuan Stops Broadcasting

Star FM Iligan and Cagayan de Oro had already stopped airing. Sandy 101, an NBC station in the same market, had also ceased operating. By Monday, June 23, 2008 another radio station is signing off for good. So long, Killerbee Butuan. It will be the first Killerbee to close shop. Too bad, we see nothing wrong with the product, how could a station manager possibly shutdown such a sellable format?

  1. Killer bee in Lucena City 103.1 was closed in 2003, T’was the best radio station for me, decent songs without playing any novelties. I dont know why it suddenly ceased operation.

  3. hello shaun,

i am mario m. mainit, a former employee of quest broadcasting incorporated (former assistant to the killer bee provincial operations director). i agree with radiojingles, the killer bee format is very much sell able, although the selling potentials are not so high compared to the mass-based formatted stations. you can make money still. but if you’re solely after on the monetary end on this business, i suggest you go for a mass based station format. the killer bee station format is not just solely for profit oriented ends. it was envisioned by the owner as a healthy and “more intelligent” alternative to the usual masa based formatted radios. the profit end comes closely as a second agenda (for obvious reasons, or else why venture into this business.. ha ha ha). such is the reason why the killer bees never veered from its format, from its humble beginnings in 1992 to this date.

should you be interested still in renting a radio station (killer bee butuan city maybe), i suggest, you contact mr. ruben absin – the provincial operations director for killer bee provincial operations @ killer bee 92.3 cebu city. that is where his office at.

with regards to basic information about how to run a radio station, he could probably help you out with that as well.

my wishes of luck to you.

    respect…love…peace.

      1. he still is. we just had a meeting with the killerbee staff (CEBU) for my club events here in cebu.

i believe you are referring to the former operations director MR RICO CARDONIGA. he left 2007, as you stated.

  7. Have you heard about Metro Manila’s DWDM 95.5?

I was an avid listener of DWDM 95.5. I first heard it as Pinoy Radio DM 95.5 since 2001 when I was in Grade 1. It played OPM songs. Around 2002, when I was in Grade 2, it was branded as DWDM 95.5 with the slogan Feel Your Music! It played OPM, Pop & Oldies Music.

The last time I heard DWDM 95.5 was in January 9, 2007 & it ceased its broadcast the next day. However, it went back around May 2007 broadcasting from 9am – 1pm, but it ceased its broadcast around June 2007. Until now, I haven’t heard something from 95.5.

I miss listening to my favorite music in that station. I wish that DWDM 95.5 goes back on air.

  10. For several years already, the reach of Killer Bee Butuan weakened. We can easily conclude that this was due to some problems of its transmitter. The station also aired live feeds of the Voice of America on specific time slots. I therefore do not want to believe that the station was not earning. But with a weak signal, advertisers and blocktimers may likely to shy away. The management should upgrade the transmitter and I believe it is being done now. Sometimes it is a business strategy to be off the air and try to get the pulse of the listening public if the station is missed. Of course KILLER BEE Butuan was missed and thus they have to be back on Air. But still, the weak signal should be corrected to gain back the trust of advertisers.

the station aired again as killerbee last sept 26 – oct24. the station went back again to its “no name phase” after oct24 but nothing changed, 102.3 was still playing the killerbee trademark songs.

  12. Hi Bogoy, me thinks the same. But if the people behind aren’t as visionary as those people in Quest, Killerbee’s HQ, then KB Butuan will really be dead forever.

Thanks for your comment Bogoy. you’re just so right let’s pray that the Killerbee team Butuan will pick up the pieces and be back sooner. God bless

  13. Hey guys….don’t believe that killerbee butuan is dead. we just don’t know the reason behind….I think there just upgrading their equipment. It’s unfair to their clients if they broadcast to a scratching signal. we better wait and standby for a moment. maybe we should pray for them to be back soon….me too I’m fan of killerbee and I really miss their music format. They are unique and no one else would make better than them ever……GO KILLERBEE GO!!!!!!

  18. that’s actually the sexond killerbee station to go kaput…

killerbee had a station in lucena, if i remember right, some 10 years (or a little less) ago, not directly under quest, but advanced media broadcasting (the same owners of what is now 103 1/2 max fm)…i’m not sure exactly of the frequency (106.3 ‘ata, basta nasa 100s na), pero at that time, it was the only CHR station in the area…they also went off the air after about a year or so…mukhang naging “ahead of its time” ang pagpasok noon ng CHR format through killerbee sa lucena…

  19. ganun na ba kahirap ang pilipinas? even a poor public are turning to be naive on the latest international music because of expanding “masa” stations? and why few of STAR FM stations are shut down? i use to love listening to the station 90.3 STAR FM in NAGA CITY as my few favs songs came from there… the masa trend wasn’t that worse that time…. but men… what’s going on in there? can\t they do something with it? nangunguna na nga tayo sa South East Asian countries when it comes to international music… tapos eto… some of the radio stations, especially with CHR format goes broke or shuting its stations or changing to MASA format ‘coz it sells on advertising…

  21. maybe it is because, not all radio stations are as sturdy as there sister companies…..maybe they need a better manager (?!) no offense meant…honest…or maybe it’s because of the price hike….hehehehehe….or maybe (i am so full of maybe’s)they pay a huge amount on taxes and that they can’t copensate anymore…hehehe….opinion lang po ha….

Ilan na lang Fm Stations sa Butuan ang natira and that is 6 Fm Stations na lang in Butuan, Ganoon din sa Zamboanga, Some Fm Radio Stations went off air already, Even some of RGNA’s Campus Radio Stations went off air, I Read that RGMA’s Campus Radio in Laoag, Kalibo, Roxas, Zamboanga and Butuan went off air already and even Bombo Radyo’s Star Fm in Cauayan, Tuguegarao, Naga, Legazpi, Kalibo, Cagayan De Oro, Butuan, General Santos, Marbel and Iligan, Hay Naku!
