UK Stations Launch Ala-iHeart Radio App

Radio Player

If US stations have the iHeart Radio, UK counters with RadioPlayer.

It’s an iOS native app that lets you listen to UK radio stations in one place. The company behind it, RadioPlayer.co.uk was launched in March 2011 as a web-based application, a venture that is supported by BBC and leading radio stations there.

Once installed on an iOS device, the user is greeted with a wall of icons shifting as you scroll the screen. You simply tap onto the station logo to tune into.

RadioPlayer have also partnered with AudioBoo allowing listeners of a listen-again feature.

US-based Clear Channel (CC), the largest radio network in the US launched iHeartRadio in 2011 as a move to counter Pandora. iHeart hosts all of CC’s streaming radio stations, but have recently allowed competing networks to the network.

Prior to these online radio directory incarnations, popular radio apps have already emerged such as TuneIn (formerly RadioTime) and the ShoutCast directory.

The company has also announced that an Android version has been released.
