FM1 Philippines has launched its newest imaging package produced by Sound Quadrat.
The station launched in November 2017 as part of the Philippines revamp of its government broadcast facilities.
Airing on 87.5 mHz FM1 is the country’s flagship CHR Top 40 station which will soon open stations in Cebu and Davao.
Using the call letters DWFO, Carlo Jose who used to be the production head at Magic 89.9 is leading the FM1 network.
FM1 will be broadcasting along its sister station FM2 on 104.3 which plays Classic Hits. Its sister stations are RP1 or Radio Pilipinas 738 on AM, RP2 918 kHZ, all of which operate under its mother network PBS (Philippine Broadcasting Service).
Sonny B, who used to be at Red Hot Mix FM in Davao is an appointee of Presidential Communications Operations Office Martin Andanar as the PBS Director General.
FM1 was chosen as the name as it is the first dial point in the country’s FM band. It is also a nod to BBC Radio 1 in the UK, being the official government station.
FM1 plays mostly foreign Top 40 or CHR songs, and select OPM songs that fit the format.
In November, there was a wide discussion as college radio stations who used the 87.5 frequency were not notified of the government takeover.
On May 9, 2018, the station closed its DJ hiring window notifying applicants that they are no longer accepting applications.
FM1 is commercial free just like BBC Radio 1. Listen at FM1.ph
