On November 4, 2009, finally the most awaited re-branding will arrive. Tambayan 101.9 is the new sound, the new face, and the name of DWRR 101.9. DWRR has lifted its supposed re-launching in October 2009 due to the Typhoons Ondoy and Pepeng.
Tambayan 101.9 is sporting the slogan … “Sa’n Ka Pa” (Where else?) Tambayan is a Filipino slang for “a place to hang-out”. The logo is predominantly blue, red, and white, with a fancy font, a hint that the station’s new personality is made even more upbeat, fun, and more mass appealing. I just find the couch icon to be a little off, it’s more of a TV icon than radio.
Tambayan 101.9 is set to officially launch on air November 4, 2009. A launching event called Destination:RadioTopia will take place 7pm, at the A. Venue Hall, Makati Avenue, Makati City.

I like the pre-Tambayan idents, yung 101.9 lang ang sinasabi. They air just continuous music, no much disruptions, just short sponsorship announcements, hourly newsbriefs, and the usual commercials.
Here in Ilocos Norte, during typhoon Pepeng, MOR Laoag (DWEL 95.5) joined 101.9 and returned to original MOR broadcast after the typhoon. At first, I was surpirsed. Why do I hear 101.9 stings when I listen to 95.5?
I was in Manila during the week of 101.9’s revamp. I was expecting it to have its reformat in the morning but just got nothing. It was still ABS-CBN 101.9. I did not have time to listen at night that time.

I’m more interested on the HD radio part of their FM service. Sounds promising. Brings back the old ABS-CBN radio of the pre-Martial Law years. Kaso lang, I couldn’t find any radio set here that is now HD Radio compatible just yet. Pls. give me more info on this. RMN is already doing this through I-FM since 2007. How come appliance dealers here don’t sell the HD radios that we need to get them whenever we are not on our computers??? This can be one way to get traditional FM radio back to its pre-Internet glory days when the absence of web-streaming still made it the preferred medium that it now isn’t when it comes to music programmin.

Right now there’s no consumer demand but the fact that ABS isgoing into the HD field should encourage other broadcast firms to follow suit as well. Eventually, demand will pick up.
