Transmitters for AM Stations in Iloilo down due to Typhoon Hannah in the Philippines

In accordance with NTC new regulation, RMN AM stations in Visayas specifically in Cebu, Bacolod and Iloilo will already be strengthening their transmitters.

DyHP Cebu from 50k watts power will be 100k watts power. Then Dyol Bacolod from 25k watts to 50k watts, then Iloilo Dyri from 10k watts to 50k watts well. AM station in the Visayas of the RMN is very strong. RMN stations here in Western Visayas are only broadcasting at 10kw only. DYRI 774 10KW, DYHB 747 10KW.

Please note that today Aug 4, 2019. DYRI 774 & DYIC 95.1 Iloilo is off the air due to very strong winds and rains brought yesterday that brought down the tower. BEAM 26 ATV & 42 DTTV is still on the air.

Transmitter location of DYIC 95.1 & DYRI 774 is at Loboc, Lapaz, Iloilo City. While DYRI 26 ATV & 42 DTTV is in Pina, Jordan, Guimaras.

Studios of RMN & BEAM is at St. Anne’s Building, Luna, Lapaz, Iloilo City.

RMN in the Crossroads City of the South remains to be the leading AM station in the market, lording DXCA, the station owned by political clan of the Cerilles in Zamboanga del Sur.

In 1978, RMN’s significant extension project was propelled which incorporate the overhauling of the specialized offices of its current stations and the foundation of extra AM and FM stations. Among the stations that were added to the program of RMN stations were: DXVM-FM in Cagayan de Oro, DXXL-FM in Davao, DYXL-FM in Cebu, DWKC-FM in Metro Manila and DXKR-AM in Marbel, South Cotabato. DWHB-FM in Baguio opened in 1980. DXDR-AM in Dipolog and DXPR in Pagadian was included 1981.

iFM 93.9 is DWKC FM, the flagship FM radio station of Radio Mindanao Network.

The iFM monicker started in 2002, however, the first airing of the station dates back to 1978. Back then it was known as 93.9 WKC a pop music leaning station, which targeted the C-D-E market. Among its famous personalities back in the day was Baby Michael, whom we know now as Mike Enriquez on GMA 7’s 24 Oras.

The C-D-E format of the station lasted until November of 1999. It then flipped to a Top 40 programming catering to high end audience. 939 KCFM became the new brand and incorporated the slogan “Live It Up”.

The rebranding was nationwide which was based on pulling out the last two letters of the call sign and removing the point or dot on the frequency.

Radio stations are now redefining their broadcasts by integrating online streaming of not just audio but video content. The leading AM station DYHP in Cebu is one of those who recently jumped into the bandwagon. Finally, the fans of the station can see the anchors and reports doing the newscasts live.

The daily soaps however are canned productions. So don’t expect to see actors doing live drama on cam.

After a significant upgrade on their broadcast equipment, Metro Manila’s Pwede station is now launching its own website – http://www.ifm.com.ph. Don’t be frustrated though, the site is still under construction. But definitely, we’ll be expecting exciting things especially now that the station is all up and ready for a big battle.

I personally talked to one of the execs at iFM Manila and they said they will be giving Love Radio, 101.9 DWRR and Barangay LS a run for their money. Seriously, I am 100% confident that iFM will be leading the MM market within the year. Here’s why:

  • Among the radio stations in the Manila, particularly the MASA ones, iFM has the smartest programming and production. iFM may not have a Nicole-Hyala or Chris-Tsuper, but the station definitely has a good selection of music. Just give 93.9 a listen, and you will hear the difference.
  • And speaking of difference – iFM, as mentioned earlier, just upgraded its transmitter. I believe it’s now broadcasting the most if not all of Luzon. But it’s not just only all about COVERAGE, it’s also about CLARITY. When you tune to 93.9 right now, you’ll find it hard to tell the difference between listening to a CD and iFM.
  • iFM is creative. You will find most of its segments very original like the Horoscope ni Tomas, And Mahiwagang Ballpen and many more.

iFM is the first and only radio station in the Philippines that broadcasts in HD. HD Radio or High Definition Radio is now the latest radio broadcast technology in US. In time, HD Radio will replace analog radio broadcast, which really sounds really like HDTVs replacing big bulky tube TVs. HD Radio is digital which means it can transmit data like the song title or weather report which will appear on the ticker of an HD Radio set. Another remarkable thing about HD Radio is you can listen to a variety of music channels from just one radio station frequency.

I also found out that iFM Cebu and Davao are next in the line of broadcast upgrades. Can’t wait for iFM to rule.

There are only a handful of radio stations in the Philippines that don’t sacrifice quality programming for commercialism, iFM is one of them. My hats off to Radio Mindanao Network for coming up with brilliant ideas for radio listeners. Keep it up and crush those radio stations that are running only after money!
