96.3 WRock Cebu Continuous To Dominate

96.3 WRock Cebu

The departure of the original 96.3 WRock in Metro Manila did not put out the fire of WRock’s sister station in Cebu. Legally known as DYRK FM, it is the only surviving call sign that carries the legendary AC brand.

96.3 WRock was the premiere choice for light rock and easy listening in Metro Manila since 1988 until it was bought by Manila Broadcasting Company (MBC) in 2008 and turned it into 96.3 Easy Rock.

Network owner ACWS – United Broadcasting Network brought WRock as an internet radio but eventually closed down in 2010 along with its sister stations in Davao and Bacolod. Continue reading 96.3 WRock Cebu Continuous To Dominate

106.7 Dream FM Goes Pure Online at PinoyTuner.com

Dream FM Becomes 'JAZZistas'

Dream FM listeners and Jazz music fans cannot believe they will be missing one more Jazz radio station in Manila FM band.

XFM 92.3 was a jazz station but was closed. Until now, there were only two Jazz stations left: Crossover 105.1 and 106.7 Dream FM. When July 1st comes, there will be one Jazz station left and more masa station added in the already crowded radio spectrum (as Energy FM takes over 106.7).

Fans suggest that Dream FM take on the 105.9 dial point. UR FaceRadio is said to vacate the slot by the end of this month.

Avid Jazzista Anthony Frank Tan, however, consoled listeners by directing them into an all-jazz online radio station via PinoyTuner.com. The station is branded as JAZZistas. It will not be carrying the Dream FM branding, but the “stationality” promises to bring the sound of the soon-to-be defunct radio to world-wide audience. Listen to 106.7 Energy FM, Is Cathy G Really Missing?

Energy FM on Dream 106.7

Energy FM on Dream 106.7 is just 2 days away, but the latest buzz is more than just that. Cathy G, its afternoon DJ is missing!

And they are scrambling to find her, so she can be on their July 1st launching. Is she really missing or is this a publicity stunt, if it’s a joke, not really a good joke, but if it is, you be the judge.

It’s official, that Energy FM is on 106.7. But they are not dropping the brand “Dream”. In fact, it’s on their graphics.

We believe this might be a temporary move, so as to remind or re-orient, so to speak, listeners that their Dream 106.7 is no longer a jazz station. Remember 91.5 Big Radio, is also doing this, with plugs that go “And dating Energy, big time na (the former Energy, now goes big time!)”.

But going back to the Cathy G thing, a YouTube was in fact uploaded. And even had Program Director Gio Mendez say they had to report it to the authorities.

So is Cathy G missing? Is this a gimmick?

Listen to DWDM Pinas FM 95.5, They Play More OPM

Pinas FM

That’s according to the recent award given to DWDM FM 95.5, now known as “Pinas FM”.

Recently they have been recognized for its consistent support for promoting and patronage of OPM or Original Pilipino Music.

The citation was given this month, June 2011 as part of the organization’s, as well as the KBP’s (Kapisanan Ng Mga Brodkaster Ng Pilipinas) implementation of the Executive Order 255 issued by the late Philippine President Corazon Aquino.

Spearheaded by President Ogie Alcasid, the “Organisasyon Ng Pilipinong Mang-aawit” encourages radio stations in the Philippines to play at least 4 local songs in one clock hour.

GMA 7, Not Penalized for Hostage Coverage Violation

GMA 7

ABS-CBN, TV5 and Radio Mindanao Network are all asked by KBP to pay P30,000 for violating its rules on appropriate coverage.

According to its internal investigative panel, all 3 networks were found out to have crossed the line just to get a good scoop on the August 2010 Luneta hostage-taking crisis.

PCIJ or Philippine Center for Investigative Journalism however said that the penalty of P30,000 is very petty compared to the number of lives lost and risked, time lost in finger pointing, and damage to international relations and tourism.

KBP However did not impose a penalty on GMA 7 since it is not a member of the organization.

DWRR 101.9 For Life 2005 and 2007 Station ID Jingles

WRR 101.9 Old Logo

I had goosebumps after reviewing an article I wrote four years ago. I thought I made a prophecy that came true, but did I? I was talking about the launch of WRR 101.9 For Life’s new jingle on September 1, 2007. The new jingle was sung by Raimund Marasigan and Yeng Constantino.

I said that the jingles were going to run for another two years or until some major changes. And some “major changes” did happen two years after 2007, WRR was re-branded as “Tambayan 101.9”.

Here is a part of that article, published September 14, 2007: Continue reading DWRR 101.9 For Life 2005 and 2007 Station ID Jingles

Campus Radio’s John Hendrix Returns to GMA

John Hendrix

Who does not know John Hendrix, one of the legendary DJ’s of the now defunct WLS 97.1 Campus Radio. John Hendrix is one of those loved voices on the radio in the heydays of Top 40 radio in Manila or in the Philippines, for that matter. That classic, friendly voice is something that we really miss.

John Hendrix became more popular when he did a TV stint on GMA 7 in the 90s for a Sunday music video show called Campus Video. His disc jockeying skills made him a natural VJ.

Like many other careers, there comes a crisis in one’s life and DJs are not immune to it. We’re talking about management changes, format changes or station closing shop. Continue reading Campus Radio’s John Hendrix Returns to GMA
