Britney Spears Cameos on When I Grow Up Pussycat Dolls Video

Pussy Cat Dolls - When I Grow Up

Britney Spears is said to be appearing on the official video for Pussycat Doll’s latest hit “When I Grow Up”. The said video will be directed by Joseph Kahn, the same guy who did Britney Spear’s Toxic video.

According to sources, the Pussycat Dolls are set to film the video after the 2008 MTV Movie Awards to be held on June 1. When I Grow Up is the first single off the group’s upcoming album Doll Domination.

For those old schoolers out there who are quite familiar with the sounds of the track, actually the song is sampled from a 1966 record from The Yardbirds, the song is called He’s Always There and was taken from the album Roger The Engineer.

Charice Pempengco Takes On DZMM Station ID Jingle

Charice Sings DZMM Station ID Jingles

Charice Pempengco needs a label, no, not a recording label. She needs to be tagged, with all this exposure she’s taking, she should be named like something. What do you think is a good label for her? Everyone knows that she’s rising a star now. Internet Star, The YouTube Diva, the Whitney Houston clone? What?

Charice recently sang a new version of DZMM’s Station ID following the trails of Sharon Cuneta, Gary Valenciano, Sheryn Regis and Carol Banawa. DZMM exec Peter Musngi is delighted to have Charice singing their jingles which really made a good impression as listeners texted in their positive feedback.

Here is the report from ABS-CBN.com:

If you think the voice behind the latest version of DZMM Radyo Patrol Sais Trenta’s radio jingle sounds familiar, you’re right. It is familiar.

Because the voice behind that song is no other than international singing sensation Charice.

In an exclusive interview with Peter Musngi, ABS-CBN’s vice-president for Manila Radio Division (MRD), he said they decided to get Charice to sing the station’s jingle specifically to get the attention of young listeners.

“We are hoping that the young listeners will notice at baka sakaling ‘yon ang maging susi para ma-introduce sila sa DZMM,” Musngi said.

“Alam mo naman ang mga bata, nasa FM or nasa iPod ‘yan. But if they hear Charice singing the DZMM anthem, number one, they might be curious to find out why is DZMM the choice AM station of Charice in terms of lending her singing talent. Number two, maybe this is more important Charice actually is showing the way for all the other teenagers na you can, you know with talent and perseverance you can be a big success even you are so young,” DZMM’s big boss added.

Musngi said that after all the honors Charice gained from her international guestings abroad, it would be just right to give the young singer a chance to shine in her own country and be heard by almost everybody through DZMM’s anthem.

“Si Charice is very hot right now and I think what happened to her in Ellen DeGeneres and Oprah I think and [her guesting for the concert] in Las Vegas it brings a lot of honor or at least it put the Philippines in the center of entertainment kumbaga when it comes to talent. And I feel ‘yung mga accomplishments na ganoon especially with very young girl should be publicized and the same talent should be given a chance to shine. Dumating na siya sa punto na kahit bata pa siya ay malaking impact na ang nagawa niya so we thought that let’s try,” he said.

Musngi said he is thankful to Malou Santos of Star Records who did the arrangement for Charice to record the station’s anthem. He said they were delighted when Charice accepted their request. The song was recorded last Thursday, April 29, and after almost three weeks of preparations it was finally aired midnight of June 1, Sunday, over radio DZMM.

Her best

Meanwhile, a business development Officer of MRD, who declined to be named, also said that Charice gave her best recording the song despite the fact that the young star was really tired from her shows abroad.

“Nakuha niya agad at mabilis ang pagkuha niya sa kanta, hindi naman siya nagko-complain pero sabi nga niya mataas yung areglo ng kanta, actually medyo paos siya ng nag-record s’ya kaya nagulat kami na she did it. And before she went to recording alam na niya na for DZMM… the recording was okay and for me it’s malinis, malakas, very powerful and anthemic.”

Charice arrived in Manila last Wednesday, May 28, from her well-praised performance at Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas five days earlier for record producer David Foster’s benefit show, entitled “David Foster & Friends”.

Last Friday, May 30, Charice again left the country to attend Philippine Independence Day Parade in New York.

Musngi said that every year, they are search for talents who can give the DZMM anthem a new sound and a new energy and evidently they found it with the young diva. He said that they made the right decision to use the singing prowess of the young diva since they already receiving feedbacks from listeners through short messages saying that they like the newest station ID.

“Yung mga medyo bata-bata pa sabi na mabuti naman at si Charice ang napili niyo. Ano kasi yan Charice is not a superstar or megastar pero alam mo na she’s really rising and she achieved so much siguro thanks to the internet kasi doon siya nadiskubre but she’s really a talented.

Gratis

Musngi said they are really thankful to Charice, who, like the other great singers opted to share her talent through her rendition of DZMM’s anthem free of charge.

“The fact is napaka-busy ni Charice para isingit niya yan ibig sabihin she’s ready and excited to do it, sa totoo lang hindi namin binayaran si Charice para din si Sharon, Gary ‘yung mga kumanta na namabibigay na artists na ito they never asked for anything siguro alam nila na DZMM is not only just about news but also about public service,” Musngi said.

Musngi revealed that right now, DZMM is getting another male singer that will do a duet with Charice. He also said that DZMM’s anniversary CD compilation feature song rendition from different anchors and personalities. They will also include the version of Charice, he added.

The DZMM theme was first heard in 2005. It was composed by Jessie Lasaten and sang by Reuben Laurente, a former member of the music group The CompanY.

After Laurente’s rendition of the station’s anthem, great singers like Sheryn Regis, Rachelle Ann Go and Carol Banawa also sang the song.

When DZMM celebrated its 20th Anniversary at the Araneta Coliseum in 2006, the jingle was given a different twist when Megastar Sharon Cuneta sang her rendition.

David Cook Wins American Idol Season 7 2008, Sings Time Of My Life

David Cook American Idol Season 7 2008

David Cook swept America off her feet, won by 12 million votes, and brought home the most coveted American Idol trophy, this season 7, 2008. It was a very unpredictable, close, yet eye and ear satisfying night they had on Tuesday’s performance night.

Simon Cowell, said it was the night for David Archueleta. Everybody thought, it is going to be Archie who’ll bring home the bacon, but in all fairness to David A., he did a great job in there!

Winning Song of David Cook, American Idol 2008

I’ve been waiting for my dreams
To turn into something
I could believe in
And looking for that
Magic rainbow
On the horizon
I couldn’t see it
Until I let go
Gave into love and watched all the bitterness burn
Now I’m coming alive
Body and soul
And feelin’ my world start to turn

And I’ll taste every moment
And live it out loud
I know this is the time,
This is the time
To be more than a name
Or a face in the crowd
I know this is the time
This is the time of my life
Time of my life

Holding onto things that vanished
Into the air
Left me in pieces
But now I’m rising from the ashes
Finding my wings
And all that I needed
Was there all along
Within my reach
As close as the beat of my heart

So I’ll taste every moment
And live it out loud
I know this is the time,
This is the time to be
More than a name
Or a face in the crowd
I know this is the time
This is the time of my life
Time of my life

And I’m out on the edge of forever
Ready to run
I’m keeping my feet on the ground
My arms open wide
My face to the sun

I’ll taste every moment
And live it out loud
I know this is the time,
This is the time to be
More than a name
Or a face in the crowd
I know this is the time
This is the time of my life
Time of my life
More than a name
Or a face in the crowd
This is the time
This is the time of my life.
This is the time of my life.

The Difference Between Radio Station Promo and Station Promotion

Radio Station Promotion

For most PDs, a station promotion has always something to do with contests while station promo are nothing but spots that help further the growth of a radio station. These are two different aspects in radio production and programming, however, these two elements must go hand in hand and must be implemented in the right manner.

What you will learn from this report:

  • Contests should not sound dull and that there different ways and ideas to hold on air contests.
  • Radio contest isn’t really a station promotion but rather a treat, learn why.
  • Radio station promotion is about reaching to untapped people before, learn tips on how to do so.
  • A station promo should be placed second at the stop set, or should it?
  • Speedy and fast talking commercials are better than slow talking ones, find out why.

Free Imaging Sweepers and Station Liners

Free Imaging Sweepers

Recently we’ve received a handful of requests for free station liners and sweepers, particularly here on our Free Radio Jingles post. So we decided to put a new section on one of our sister sites — Radio Jingles Forum and we call it Free Imaging Sweepers. The idea is basically simple, you give us your station liners, and we produce it at absolutely no charge. What’s the catch?

Nothing. Just give us the coolest and most creative station liner copy and we’ll turn it into an imaging bomb. Visit the Free Imaging Sweepers, post your request.

How Networking Affects Radio Imaging Creativity

Radio Networking Creative IMaging

Chris Stevens of Jones TM recently wrote an article about the relationship of networking and radio imaging. Here’s the article:

Originally it was an art. In the days of fewer stations on the dial and no networking, you could get away with all sorts of long creative masterpieces. Partly because there was nothing else to lure your audience away, and partly because there were no constraints – let alone focus groups and marketing agency plans.

Then, the 90s arrived. Every sweeper had to be the same length, saying the same words, with possibly a different type of whoosh in the background. Your work would have exciting titles like “A2” or “B3”, and could suddenly be played out remotely, along with 20 other sweepers with the same words for other parts of the country. Woe betide you if it was more than exactly 7.0 seconds, and don’t even suggest sung jingles.

iFM 93.9 Launches Website Soon, Crushes Love Radio and DWRR

iFM 93.9

Visit their website here http://ifm939.webs.com/

After a significant upgrade on their broadcast equipment, Metro Manila’s Pwede station is now launching its own website – http://www.ifm.com.ph. Don’t be frustrated though, the site is still under construction. But definitely, we’ll be expecting exciting things especially now that the station is all up and ready for a big battle.

I personally talked to one of the execs at iFM Manila and they said they will be giving Love Radio, 101.9 DWRR and Barangay LS a run for their money. Seriously, I am 100% confident that iFM will be leading the MM market within the year. Here’s why:

  • Among the radio stations in the Manila, particularly the MASA ones, iFM has the smartest programming and production. iFM may not have a Nicole-Hyala or Chris-Tsuper, but the station definitely has a good selection of music. Just give 93.9 a listen, and you will hear the difference.
  • And speaking of difference – iFM, as mentioned earlier, just upgraded its transmitter. I believe it’s now broadcasting the most if not all of Luzon. But it’s not just only all about COVERAGE, it’s also about CLARITY. When you tune to 93.9 right now, you’ll find it hard to tell the difference between listening to a CD and iFM.
  • iFM is creative. You will find most of its segments very original like the Horoscope ni Tomas, And Mahiwagang Ballpen and many more.

iFM is the first and only radio station in the Philippines that broadcasts in HD. HD Radio or High Definition Radio is now the latest radio broadcast technology in US. In time, HD Radio will replace analog radio broadcast, which really sounds really like HDTVs replacing big bulky tube TVs. HD Radio is digital which means it can transmit data like the song title or weather report which will appear on the ticker of an HD Radio set. Another remarkable thing about HD Radio is you can listen to a variety of music channels from just one radio station frequency.

I also found out that iFM Cebu and Davao are next in the line of broadcast upgrades. Can’t wait for iFM to rule.

There are only a handful of radio stations in the Philippines that don’t sacrifice quality programming for commercialism, iFM is one of them. My hats off to Radio Mindanao Network for coming up with brilliant ideas for radio listeners. Keep it up and crush those radio stations that are running only after money!

Energy FM Perks Up Online and On Air

Energy FM 91.5 Metro Manila

There are, without a doubt, a lot of new things coming along on the airwaves of Metro Manila. Energy FM, a Manny Luzon-managed FM network just recently upgraded its technical aspects which means that their flagship station in Manila is getting stronger. After years, finally the Energyfm.fm website got revamped.

You will also notice an obvious transformation of Energy FM’s on air and graphical logo. The Hi-Pangga brand seems to work very effectively, competing side by side with rival stations’ Bestpren, Kabisyo, Kapuso and whatever.

Sad to say though that there is no online streaming link on the new Energyfm.fm website. Unfortunately too, the website is not geared towards their target audience. I should say that their website should have been in Filipino. I believe their website is kind of boring. But it’s better than nothing.

Have a look at Energy FM’s website at http://www.energyfm.fm but don’t expect too much.

Here in Metro Cebu, I’d like to commend Energy FM though for crafting good programming. From a listener’s point of view, I believe Energy FM 94.7 is able to live up to its name here. Way to go!
