97.9 Love Radio Cebu Listenership Picks Up

Love Radio 97.9 Cebu

When it comes to masa stations in Cebu, 97.1 Lupig Sila (ABS-CBN), 99.5 Nindota Ah (RGMA), 91.5 Hot FM (MBC) and 93.9 iFM (RMN) or the Big 4 come to mind first. But aside from Hot FM, everyone knows MBC had other stations running such as Easy Rock (formerly Yes FM) and Love Radio.

Love Radio is MBC’s flagship Hot AC station in the country, so it was surprising to find out that during the last few years, Love Radio went low profile in the airwaves of Sugbu. Guess, the name does not always guarantee a top rating.

But in the recent months, when Love Radio revamped its programming to conform with its mother station in Manila, updated its lineup of personalities,97.9 Love Radio is picking up listenership faster, which now shakens the established Big 4 of Cebu. Surprisingly, DYBU the legal identity of Love Radio Cebu has been around since the 1950s. In 1975, DYBU moved from AM to FM band. Continue reading 97.9 Love Radio Cebu Listenership Picks Up

DWKX, formerly branded as 103.5 Wow FM, is an FM radio station in the Philippines owned by Advanced Media Broadcasting System, Inc.

On July 22, 2013 at 6:00am, after its nonattendance for very nearly 7 years, 103.5 was relaunched as the second cycle of 103.5 K-Lite with the new trademark, “The Hits and Lite Favorites”, and as a grown-up contemporary station. EJ Electric was the primary DJ to get onto, trailed by different athletes, for the most part from the Max FM/Wow FM program and different stations. The official dispatch was made on August 1, 2013. Amid its first weeks of operation, the stations studios stayed inside the Jollibee Plaza working, before it was exchanged back to Paragon Plaza.Since the relaunch, the station’s transmitter control minimized back to the normal ostensible point of confinement of 25,000 watts.

103.5 Wow FM Streaming Live

Justin Bibbo, Mr. Fu, Laila Chikadora and the rest of the Wow FM gang can now be heard and be seen on Ustream.TV. Ustream seems to be the go to nowadays for most radio stations for live streaming since it’s free, it comes with a chat service, and integration via Facebook and Twitter, plus the quality of streaming is good. At 128kbps or near CD quality streaming, most radio stations now prefer to stream over Ustream than pay for a shoutcast server for instance.

Photo owned by Philstar.com

Philstar.com reports that blocktime broadcaster Apolinario “Jun” Arigo of DYKC AM RPN Radio was arrested Friday night 9:45 PM Mandaue City Police for releasing libelous statements on the air against former Major Thadeo Ouano.

The libel case was filed against Arigo by former Mandaue City Mayor and now Provincial Board member Thadeo Ouano after Arigo, in his radio program, alleged that Ouano embezzled money
from the bank he used to work in and went to the United States, subsequently buying four franchises of a popular fastfood chain upon his return.

Ouano denied embezzling any amount from the bank, as shown by the certification issued by the bank itself, and further denied that he owned any fastfood branch.

High OPM Royalty Fees Pushes Recording Companies To Revive Foreign Songs

APO Hiking Society - OPM Group

In the Philippines, revival of foreign songs or songs recorded in the US mostly, is rampant. OPM Artist (Original Pilipino Music) Nonoy Zuniga, in an interview with ABS-CBN, appeals to local composers here to find ways to make royalty fees attractive so that recording companies will be encouraged to revive classic Filipino music.

It is estimated that 60 percent of the music produced locally now are remakes of foreign music, songs like “Too Much Love Will Kill You by Queen” revived by Jovit Baldovino.

In an effort to revive the local industry, the Kapisanan ng mga Brodkaster ng Pilipinas and Filipino Composers Development Cooperative (FILCOMDEC) joined to form ClickMusic.com.ph. ClickMusic’s business model works like iTunes, where music fans can buy songs individually, instead of an entire album.

Its website http://www.clickmusic.com.ph will be launched in September this year.

ClickMusic will also be launching the first KBP Pop Music Festival, with the aim of discovering new talents.

In the meantime, President Aquino pushes a directive that will strengthen mandatory airplay of OPM music on every radio station.

The KBP Code, under Music sections, item number 1, states that:

All stations shall actively promote the growth and development of Filipino music. Radio stations are encouraged to schedule OPM’s in accordance with existing provision of law and the KBP rules and regulations (4 OPM’s every clockhour).

Aircheck – Home Radio 97.9

Home Radio 97.9 http://www.homeradiofm.net/

Home Radio 97.9 reminds of a station in the US called Jack FM. Not to compare, but the imaging approach of the station works just the same as the Jack FM format. Jackie obviously is a rip off of Jack. The Jack FM format is we-play-what-you-want. Their imaging consists of a voice guy named Jack, who does all the station liners and talking. Home Radio originally was a no-DJ format, meaning there were no DJs talking, apart from the announcer whose name is Jackie.

Jackie’s personality is very much like Jack, happy go lucky, careless, witty, funny, and sometimes sarcastic. Not everyone loves her, in fact, I learned some listeners get irritated with Jackie, but apparently a lot of listeners love the Home Radio format. In Manila, Home Radio is an adult contemporary radio station. In Cebu, the franchise sports a CHR format.

Home Radio 97.9 is operated by Aliw Broadcasting Corporation.

Here is an aircheck of the station.

The Edge 95.9 Takes Iligan City By Storm

Iligan City’s 1st Top 40 Station in Years

Just barely weeks after its launch, The Edge 95.9 became an instant hit in the bay area.  The station is the first Top 40 FM radio since years. We learned from Iliganons that after Bay Radio and Rocky 98.3 closed shop years ago, there has not been any English-format stations in the city. It seemed like Iligan City was deprived of the pop songs until The Edge launched this year with the leadership of Iligan City’s radio icon Bro Michell.

The Edge 95.9 – my iPod Radio, plays Top 40 songs mixed with pop recurrents. In fact, this station was somehow formatted like the popular Jack FM in the US. But with a more youthful appeal.

Here are some feedbacks The Edge listeners:

Well Finally, They put an English Fm Station in Iligan, If you could see the list there like what you wrote the FM Stations in Iligan like 90.1 Wow Fm, I Fm 102.3, 103.1 Wild Fm, Yes Fm 105.5 and 107.1 Love Radio, Their Format is all Pang-Masa Radio Stations, Good thing they put an English Fm Station in Iligan so we won’t have the oversaturated format of Pang-Masa Fm Radio Stations in the Philippines that we have now — Rafael

hi peeps! we stayed here for almost 2 years, with that span of time i don’t listen to fm stations until such time edge 95.9 fm existed..thanks it’s no more boring days for me and my family..thank GOD ,you don’t play korean songs or the like..keep up the good work.i’m your avid fan, count me in — Kirk
