Festival for Radio A Huge Sucess, Organizers Look Forward to Year 5

As Bob Dylan would say, radio is part of the soundtrack of our lives.

That is why thousands of people last June 1 to 3 gathered at the Sempione Park to participate in “Radio City Milano”.

The fourth edition of the festival “celebrates radio, the most widespread and popular means of communication in the world, an extraordinary tool for cultural dissemination and information”, as explained by the Culture Councilor Filippo Del Corno, “who brings to the city the radio in every form reflecting the multiplicity of languages used in radio, the diversity of contents and messages of the various broadcasters.

And at the Sempione, between Piazza del Cannone and the Triennale gardens, temporary studios have been set up for the most beloved Italian and international radio stations.

With the artistic direction of Filippo Solibello and the production of Punk For Business, RadioCity was a huge successful party (free and open to all) but also a nice look into Milan, because, according to Tourism Councilor Roberta Guaineri, “more than twenty radio stations were present at the show contributing to spread the knowledge of the charm and beauty that characterize the city”.

The festival reached thousands of people live and millions of listeners thanks to the connections with the most listened to stations.

From Radio Deejay to Virgin Radio, from Rmc to Radio Italia, which broadcasted from Piazza del Cannone with guests Le Vibrazioni and The Journalists.

From Radio 24 to Rds, Emma, Annalisa and Dolcenera hosted a workshop focused on the role of radio.

With the success of the event, organizers are now looking forward to next year’s festival.

Station Announces Innovation in Radio

Yesterday at the headquarters in Via Asiago in Rome, Radio Rai presented many innovations: two new channels and a totally digital supply chain on the whole offer, which will also bring a customized radio journal.

The projects were announced with the name of “R (adio) evolution” by the director of Radio Rai Roberto Sergio, together with Rai’s Chief Digital Officer Gian Paolo Tagliavia, the Chief Technology Officer Stefano Ciccotti, the director of Radio 1 Gerardo Greco and Radio 2 Paola Marchesini.

The new proposals include Radio2 Indie , described as “the trend channel of the future, of the new independent rock and alternative scene, but also of new Italian pop music and exclusive live events”.

In short, the desire expressed byMax Casacci a few months ago about the idea that the public service should have a channel dedicated to contemporary music, even if in the desires of the producer the channel should have been television.

It will be necessary to understand how the radio channel will be able to compete with the streaming offers, given that the audience of the Italian “indie” (as Mamma Rai wants to call it) did not grow with the radio, but with the possibility of listening to everything on demand, and if this operation will serve the scene to gain public.

Radio2 Indie will start on June 21st , and the first song to be aired will be “Paracetamolo” of Calcutta , taken from his new album “Evergreen” released on May 25th.

And, as the press notes, “artists like Ghali , Iosonouncane , Liberato , Carl Brave , Marie Antoinette , Andrea Laszlo De Simone , Pop X , Sick Tamburo , Verdenaand also many international artists, in a great flow of free music, always new, trendy, all in a single channel, which has no preclusions of styles and sounds, but with a single common denominator: always offer before everything else everything that makes style.

It will also be an opportunity to propose live concerts, deepenings in the sign of music, capable of making radio listeners enter even more “.

The new channel will also be available in the Dab + bouquet of RadioRai, on the Digital Terrestre Tv and on the web and RaiPlayRadio app.

Roberto Sergio comments on the news of Radio Rai: “With these two channels (the other is Rai Radio1 Sport ed) our offer of radio increases and brings the total number to 12.

A rich offer, unthinkable only a few years ago, which positions Rai Radio among the main players in the production of audio content, whether for entertainment, information or culture “.

10 Effective Ways To Increase Your Radio Station’s Sales

Radio sales is a tough job that can be made easier by utilizing some best practices like these 10 ways to increase your station’s sales. These are common-sense practices that successful sales professionals use to keep their contacts interested, happy and coming back for more business. Some of these may seem like simple common sense, and it’s true, that good sales practice is based on solid tried-and-true practices like these. Perhaps by seeing them all written down together, you can be inspired to take action and to think of more ideas of your own.

Here are 10 winning ways to increase your station’s sales:

1. Follow-Up

Contact your customers as soon as they buy their first campaign, with a personal email to say “thank you” and perhaps also to extend a special offer. You can also follow up with automated emails, but that first personal contact after the sale tells them that they are as important to you AFTER the sale as they were before it. (And that’s the truth!)

2. Upsell

Even before the first sale, there’s no reason to be shy about trying to upsell to your clients. Once they book a radioAirtime Campaign, you can offer other channels such as digital advertising on your station’s website and/or app. Sell the benefits of doing so in coordination with radio, and make it easy for them to add that to their campaign.

3. Ask for Referrals

There is no stronger business introduction than a referral from a happy customer. So be prepared to offer something special to all your customers who can refer three or four new customers or prospects to you.

This could be a discount, some free services, or some comps that another customer has given to you. (For example, your hotel client has given you vouchers for a 3-day weekend in a luxury suite. Instead of using it yourself, you could offer it to the customer who brought you the most new business.)

4. Remember the Holidays

Make personalised, handwritten greeting cards for the important holidays, especially the year-end festive season. The positive impression can be made even more memorable with a personal touch that shows your clients that you appreciate them and their business. This is also a good way to begin to bring lapsed clients back to active status.

5. Reward Customers for their Loyalty

You can create any kind of loyalty promotion scheme to offer benefits to your clients. For example, if they book 2 campaigns a year, offer them a Loyalty Reward so they can benefit from stuff such as a 10% discount for any additional campaigns.

6. Give Window Stickers and Signs to Retail Customers

Give all of your clients with retail businesses a colourful window sticker to display at the front door that saysAsAdvertised On… [YOUR STATION].This reminds the general public about your station and promotes a personal connection between the client and your station.

7. Invite Clients to your Studio to Hear their Commercials

Especially if they are new to using radio, always invite your local adver-
tisers to your studios to hear the finished production of their new advert, before it starts on air. “Sell the sizzle” and give them an enjoyable taste of the “showbiz experience.” It’s fair to say that the commercial will sound infinitely better when played through your studio equipment but you should also play it through a little radio speaker to hear it the
way the listeners will.

8. Survey your Customers

Conduct a survey of each customer to ask about their impressions of the results. Then, take a real interest in their feedback. This is extremely valuable information for you, since retaining a client is easier and less expensive than winning a new one.Your survey could even offer a prize to encourage clients to take part.

9. Offer Bonuses Instead of Discounts

Bonuses are better than discounts because they don’t lower the value of your service, they can cost you less and customers perceive them more positively than discounts. For example, you could offer a basic online campaign to run alongside their paid-for airtime campaign. This way you’re offering value without undermining your rate card.

10. Run some Special Offers of the Month

Run some themed “Offer Months” such as a “New Client Month” where you offer a special deal to brand new clients or an “Existing Client Month” where you offer a small package of extra spots or promos for clients who renew or extend their current campaigns.

Radio Jingles for Number 1 Rated Stations

Radio jingles or radio imaging, for the technical people imaging is the keyword, but mind you.

Most of the lay people in the industry are most used to the term radio jingles and they refer both to sung and spoken radio imaging.

But whatever term you use, imaging is essential. If you are a top rated, number 1 radio station, how many times can you say number 1?

In fact, when you just say “WERE THE NUMBER 1 STATION” on your sweepers, eventually it will lose it’s meaning.

That is why at some point in timer, WHTZ Z100 New York dropped the slogan NEW YORKS NUMBER 1 HIT MUSIC STATION in favor with New Yorks Hit Music Station.

Here are a few other ways to say you are number 1

  1.  Number 1 means you are always on top, your number 1 radio
  2.  The music just feels good, your on the number 1
  3.  Hit music belongs here, on your number 1 station

“But you still mentioned the phrase number 1”?

Stay calm! You can replace that with your station name.

They point here is to use phrases to build up to the number 1 positioning. Explain in simple terms why your station is number 1.

It does not have to be about your station, it can be about your listeners, your music.

That is the secret of effective radio imaging, don’t repeat the same words, the same message. Be creative and find new ways to say the same thought.

Papa Dudut of Barangay LS 97.1 Manila Started Doing This On His YouTube Channel Because of This

People nowadays listen to radio, not just on radio apps, forget cellphonse. Well yes, in the provinces they are a staple.

But online, especially among OFWs, it’s not all about websites and apps.

They listen to radio on YouTube!

The most popular content on radio is no longer music, when you are talking about the internet domain. It’s those non-music based content, the talk based shows like love letters, on air callins and what not.

And if your radio station does not provide that kind of content to your online audience, people will find a way.

To be fair, Barangay LS 97.1 has on its website an RSS or podcast of its latest episodes of their talk based shows.

They also have mobile apps for iOS and Android. But who wants to have an app for every station? When you can listen to them in one place?

YouTube is that place. People upload recorded radio shows especially the Barangay Love Stories and Wanted Sweetheart.

They become so popular, that these YouTube contents have more views than those from official radio station channels.

So Papa Dudut, anchor of Barangay Love Stories decided to upload episodes of his shows on his YouTube channel.

It’s tricky though, there is a reason why fm stations don’t even bother live streaming or uploading their on air content to YouTube.

It is because of the copyright ID protection of the platform.

Shows like Barangay Love Stories while it is mostly talk based, also plays music in the background, that mushy sentimental background music will get copyright IDed by YouTube and will be reported to authorities and as a result the video will be taken down.

Which is why radio DJs, take it upon themselves to post it and but clear them out first of any potential copyright problems.

It is time consuming, radio stations don’t have much manpower to do it.

What they are up against to though is the democratization of uploading content to YouTube. There are already established YouTube channels out there that post Barangay LS content with much more subscribers, so there is a lot of catching up to do.

UNLESS!

Barangay LS starts to implement copyright protection to its radio shows, so they can take down those who upload their shows other than them.

Where to buy and download Morning Show Radio Imaging and Production Elements

Radio stations in Asia, Particularly in the South East, like in the Philippines, Malaysia, Singapore. Stations here have unique needs when it comes to their radio imaging and production for the morning block.

It’s a multi-culture approach and there is no one size fits all imaging service that fits the needs of imaging and morning show producers.

Sure, there are several updating services out there. But often times they are tailored and more often than not, sorry to use this but “left-overs” from already aired productions in major networks.

Now what to do:

1.) Create your own sounds. Your spring board is your listeners. Whatever format you have, start with the listeners in mind.

You need a new promo or intro for your station’s morning show? You don’t need to use the most expensive production service out there. Use sounds that are relevant to your listeners. Listener clips, and use voices of your morning jocks, it’s a no brainer.

2.) But you still need FX right? Go for libraries that intended and designed for morning shows. These FX collections contain relevant audio elements that grab listeners attention. Not just bangs, the booms and the swooshes, but drops, clips and sound bytes that are morning show friendly.

One such collection of morning show imaging and production FX are the Morning Freqz Volumes 1 and 2.

Here have a listen to the demo and contact the site on how to get this for your station

Honest Review Bluetooth Headphones Miijiaer X20 Wireless Earbuds with Microphone Noise Cancelling Earphones on Amazon

What I really like about this pair of Bluetooth Headphones Miijiaer X20 Wireless Earbuds is that it is alrelady Bluetooth 4.1 compatible. What this means is that you are ahead of the technology cycle, 5 to 10 years ahead to be exact.

So whatever new technology that comes in the next few years you are sure that your pair of tetherless ear pieces will support devices even the next iPhone.

Bluetooth 4.1 also means more sound quality, because it is able to carry more sound information from the source of your sound for example like a smartphone to your earbuds.

Now of course, you cannot talk quality without talking about battery life.

This beastie right here will only charge for 1.5 hours and it is going to be great for 6 to 8 hours.

Other earpieces take about 2 hours, I don’t know why they are called fast charging.

Now, when you say noise cancelling, what really comes to mind are those big bulk over the ear types, but this one can. Yes, you read it right.

It is possible because of the CVC 6.0 mechanism. Now, this is useful not only during music listening but for taking calls, even if you are out and about a busy street.

Not to mention of course these Bluetooth Headphones Miijiaer X20 Wireless Earbuds are comfortable to wear, using high grade materials.

And one of the important things I look into tetherless earphones, good controls. Yes, physical control are tough.

Take a look at what is inside the box.
